PROJECTS

During my time at Art with a Heart I was heavily involved in the summer programming for various locations that we were partnered with. My tasks involved testing and editing potential art projects for children in elementary to middle school grades. Testing a project involved actually doing the art project as if I were the student in the class. I had to be mindful of the time of completion of the projects because each project had to be done within an hour, similar to how a class period would be. During this process I was able to edit and break down each step so that it was made easier for the teacher and students to understand. The finished project would then be stored in my supervisor's office along with the newly edited instruction paper.

When the time came for a teacher to do the project I was in charge of making sure all the supplies were packed and labeled for each site. This was a crucial component in ensuring the summer programming went smoothly. Teachers must have all the necessary supplies so that the children can complete the project successfully.

Another large part of my contribution during internship was being a teacher's aide at Collington Square School. During my time as a teacher's aide I helped to facilitate a positive working environment for the children we were teaching. On a weekly basis I would drive to my site and help the teacher set up for class. During this time we would talk about the best way to teach the lesson. During the class period I would help the kids if they felt frustrated or stuck on any portion of the project. The most rewarding feeling was when I had students who in the beginning of class thought they were not good at art and by the end of class had complete the project successfully with a smile on their face.

Below are some of the projects I was a part of creating and/or teaching.
